Not much is known thus far about The Thompson Doctrine, named after Cristina Thompson and developed during the time of The Crushing Fist. The doctrine seems to be based on Cristina's collective experiences traversing the multiverse, likely formalized by The Council. Currently only two parts of the doctrine have been discussed, the first being "guns don't help", and the second being "every world has its own form of existential danger happening all the time, slowly or quickly, but present all the same". Cristina has expressed these ideas in the past, including training the children to expect any and all forms of danger in the other worlds they encounter, and telling Jonathan Cortin that she has "never come across a situation out here where a gun would have done a damn thing". These ideas, and possibly others, may have formed the basis for the doctrine.

An early form of the doctrine was also used by Danny when training refugees from The Crushing Fist.

"And what do you do if you see a shadowy humanoid with bright eyes, one violet, and one blue?" Danny called loudly, face held forward, his eyes on the clear slopes ahead.

"Don't listen to their calls," the group repeated in unison. "They mimic voices."
