The Black also shares many traits of the [[Shadow Sphere]], with [[Jonathan Cortin]] describing it as a type of living nightmare. Within it are many entities similar to the [[Shadow Entity]], which also take delight in causing sadistic pain to their victims.
The Black can be successfully repelled through use of a very large mechanism comprising a [[Portal hub facility]] and an enormous particle accelerator. The mechanism takes approximately 24 hours to charge, and releases a pulse that strengthens the [[Outer Shield]] and walls of the local and surrounding realities.
